Kovalam
is a natural bay on the Arabian Sea coast of Kerala, festooned with
crescent-shaped beaches encircled by bounteous coconut and palm
trees. Kovalam Beach is an ideal backdrop for sun and sea bathing.
Since the 1930s, this famous beach resort has been a favorite haunt
for international tourists especially the Europeans.
Sight Seeing
Kovalam, located 10 km from Thiruvananthapuram (Trivandrum) is composed
of three small falcate beaches flanking each other, namely, the
Lighthouse Beach, Hawa Beach and Samudra Beach.
Tourists idle away most of their time in the Lighthouse Beach, the
southern most beach. There is a lighthouse situated on an isthmus
at the south end of the beach that presents a fabulous view of the
sea and nearby Vizhinjam Mosque. The middle beach is the Hawa Beach
that is the focal point for local fishermen every morning. The high
rock promontory that cuddles the clear blue waters, white sand and
green coconut palms makes Hawa Beach a tropical paradise! The Samudra
Beach is a serene, secluded beach less explored and least influenced
by the altering times. It is an ideal place to relax. Simple wooden
fishing vessels line up along the periphery of the beach.
Beach Activities
Kovalam Beach is an ideal site for water sports like swimming, skiing,
kayaking, parasailing, surfing and windsurfing. Relax and shed away
all your stress and tensions by a Ayurvedic massage or oil bath
by our Ayurvedic masseurs. You can also enjoy sunbathing on the
golden sands of the Kovalam Beaches under the exotic tropical sun
and get a lovely tan. You can also get Yoga nad meditation tips
from professional yoga instructors. Alongside the beaches, there
are markets for tourists offering handicrafts, jewellery, cloths,
souvenirs etc. There are various seaside restaurants and stalls
along the Kovalam Beaches which provide fresh and appetizing seafood.
